In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

A Tribute and Celebration

We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.

Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.

Ouida,

I'm not sure, but wasn't that photo taken at Marion Park elementary school on the first day the school was integrated? Of course, time sometimes infects memory with imagination.

Very funny, David.

Do I see Anne Stallworth, Mary McLemore, Philip George, Bill Tatum, etc.?

Here are my guesses: Second from left, bottom row, Tarpley Blair Mann and next to her is Jimmy Lewis. Top row with the parasol is Anne H. Stallworth and two over to the left is June McRae. Perhaps Martha and I can get the group labled without too much difficulty.

First row on the left looks like David Caldwell.

Ahhhh... second row, right in back of the "mascot" has to be Jinny Lee. I'd recognize that smile anywhere.

Jinny, can you tell help identify? I was living in Oxford when our class was in elementary school so I don't know anyone.

Not yet! Keep guessing - you're doing quite well - just four mistakes so far - June's not in the picture, Darrell not David, it's not at Marion Park and integration was not in anyone's vocabulary!

This is Poplar Springs Elementary School, the May Day festival. Top row: Lyle McClellan, Carol Ann Chatham, Michael Davis, Anne Stallworth. Second row: Mary McLemore, Philip George, Dorothy Piggott, Bill Hobbs, Edwina Hubert, Bill Tatum, Jinny Curran. Bottom row: Darrell Caldwell, Tee Mann, Janice Anne Switzer, Bobby Temple, Marjorie Barham and the black face is Buddy Croxdale. These are Tee's picks. Do not rememberr the names of several others.
