In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

A Tribute and Celebration

We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.

Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.

Prayers for Our Friend Al

Over the last several months we have been receiving sad news from Al Trussell about his cancer condition. (He always thanks us for our prayers.) He has been having ongoing procedures and treatment. Pet scan results in June showed that the melanoma had spread to other parts of his body including the area on his neck where the lymph nodes were removed in February. The other places are his bones, both lungs, spleen, and abdomen, placing his cancer at stage IV.

After the pet scan results in June, he began treatment with VERVOY. Earlier this month he reported great difficulties with side effects. This morning Al's daughter, Suzanne Trussell Ogstad, posted on his Facebook page that he is not doing well. The family is bringing him to Sheryl Shwetz's home (she is another daughter) for hospice care. They ask us to pray for his comfort and for the family.

Most precious Jesus, Our Lord and Savior, we place Al, our dear friend and brother, in your hands, praying for healing, peace and provision for his every need. May the God of All Comfort be present with him and his family and fill their hearts.

Remembering all of you, I add these special prayers for Al and everyone who is experiencing sorrows and illnesses, asking for the intercessions of the Blessed Mother.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Amen.
