Although most of us in Philadelphia for the 50th Reunion stayed at the sister casino, The Silver Star, I found this adjoining building, The Golden Moon, to be a of delightful piece of architecture, and couldn't resist photographing it. I didn't get a picture at night with the "moon" lit, but you can google it and find one. My cousin Boots Howell in Philadelphia, MS, told me that it was designed by a young architect just out of school. He was listening to the clients describe what kind of building they wanted with a moon incorporated in the design, and he was sketching all during the meeting. His sketch was very close to the final design. He was with a firm in Miami that specializes in contemporary buildings. I have yet to figure out the pattern of the windows, but will do that when I have more time.
In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958
A Tribute and Celebration
We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.
Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.
