In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

A Tribute and Celebration

We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.

Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.

Mrs. Ethridge, 90, of Collinsville, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a retired bookkeeper for Bill Ethridge Lincoln Mercury and worked at Memorial Park Cemetery at its beginning. The phrase "nothing the heart gives away is gone…it is kept in the hearts of others" describes Mrs. Ethridge best, as she spent her life caring for, helping, and giving to her family and friends. She loved to garden, grow flowers, collect stamps, and read. She attended Antioch Southern Methodist Church and was a member of the Keenagers Sunday School Class and the Victoria Love Women's Circle.

She is survived by her son, Gerard Ethridge and his wife, Phyllis, of Collinsville; daughter, Linda Dulaney and her husband, Robert, of Collinsville; grandchildren, Brent Ethridge and his wife, Julie, of Brandon, Kim Ethridge of Madison, Caleb Dulaney and his wife, Madison, of Ridgeland, Sam Dulaney and Bonnie Blue Dulaney; great-grandchildren, Haley Ethridge and Sarah Ethridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claiborne Ethridge; parents, Samuel Oscar and Sula George Moore; sister, Mazelle McAlister; brother, Jack Moore; and niece, Sue McAlister Ammon.

Pallbearers were Dr. Richie McAlister, Brent Ethridge, Richie McAlister, Caleb Dulaney, Sam Dulaney and Kirby Keith.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Lynette Mayatt Odom Scholarship Fund at West Lauderdale High School. Funds should be made payable to The Lynette Mayatt Odom Scholarship Fund and mailed to Rayvenne McDonald, c/o Lauderdale County School System, P.O. Box 5498, Meridian, MS 39302.

Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
