In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

A Tribute and Celebration

We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.

Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.

Martha Ann's Battle

Martha Ann has asked that I delete the text of my post concerning her recent diagnosis. She thinks that we're all aware of her disease and can respond to the information and her condition as each sees fit.

Martha Ann is now in the hands of her earthly physicians, is guided by her own determination to win the battle and is directed her our heavenly Father. We are watching and waiting for word from her about subsequent steps she will be taking with expected outcomes and finally, the good news for which we're all praying.

The Best To You, Martha!

Martha Ann, you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. I am sad but know you have what it takes to overcome - that spirit "strong in will - to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." Your friends stand with you, and I ask the Archangels to be by your side: St. Michael to defend you, St. Gabriel to bring good news and St. Raphael to guide you and your medical care and to bring good health (his name means "God has healed"). We will see you at the reunion.

Jinny, thanks for so eloquently reminding us of how much Martha Ann has added to this vehicle that you conceived and Ouida implemented. I think, by allowing us into the many facets of her life, she has given full expression to your idea of really connecting again. As I wrote to her, you presented her with our Blog's "Oscar". If we can keep this damn thing going after the reunion, she may win again next year, too.

Martha Ann, starting next week you're going to meet with some tough sledding no doubt, but now that we know about your challenges, maybe I can speak for the MHS, class of '58, "We are all Martha Anns now.

I expect to see you and Harry at the casino and, if as you humorously suggested, you might be wearing a wig, wear a loud, flaming-assed RED one!

MA, As I have told you in e-mails, you are in my thoughts and prayers. You're a true Steel Magnolia and you have a lot of support from all of us.

David spoke well for the MHS Class of '58.

Thank you so much, Jinny, for such a caring and encouraging post. I will feel the encouragement of everyone in the coming weeks, and I'm sure it will help me. I do think I'll look for a red wig!

Martha Ann, you will be in my thoughts and prayers during the coming days. They can do so much now that they couldn't years ago, so hang in there, and we'll see you with or without the red wig at the reunion. We love you.

Now Martha Ann why don't you just be really sassy and sexy and come without a wig. Or buy an assortment of berets and wear a red one.

Martha Ann: please continue to give us whatever information you wish to share. We are with you in spirit, and will do anything we can possibly do as you go over this bump in the road. You will always be that little girl in pigtails who sat next to me in 1st Grade at Witherspoon School.
