In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

A Tribute and Celebration

We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.

Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.

This blog is a place for 1958 graduates of Meridian, Mississippi, High School to stay in touch, post their news, items of interest and photographs.

I would like to add some words of experience to the warning.

Your home may be capable of withstanding hurricane winds, but how long can you swim? What happens if the power is out for a couple of weeks?

When you pack to take things, ask yourself the value of what you are taking - and are you leaving behind things that are more valuable? Pictures, family treasures that can't be replaced? Did you back up your computer to an offsite back up service? Should you take out your hard drive and take that with you?

If any member of your extended family is on oxygen, you MUST have a prescription to get refills. In the event of a direct strike, you will probably not be able to find the doctor or the oxygen service. Think ahead for all medical problems you might encounter.

If you have a video camera, take a video of the contents of your home and take the camera with you.

By anyone's account, I am an optimist. I always think things will turn out okay. But it never hurts to be a wee bit cautious.

Gulf Coast friends - many, many people are praying for your safety and for a major change in the storm's intensity and direction.

Thanks Jinny. We appreciate your prayers. I can't tell you how frightened people are. Some people are just now moving back into their homes after three years.

Am so glad Gustav wasn't any worse than it was. I was in constant touch with my son and daughter who live down there. I had you all in my thoughts and prayers that this wouldn't be another Katrina.
