In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

A Tribute and Celebration

We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.

Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.

KEEP YOUR GRANDAUGHTERS ON A LEASH

Here is my 13-year old grandson Caleb at the swimming pool at University of Alabama. He had just come from the water slide, and actually encouraged his grandmother to do so as well, believe it or not!

Why would you find it difficult to believe that he would suggest you give it a try.

For heaven's sake, don't even think of saying you are too old or anything close to that.

Hey M.A.! I Think Caleb is a good looking kid. Keep him away from Miley Cyrus (sp.?) concerts because all the little chicks will smother him. He's got a fun future ahead of him.

As one who sits in praise of older women, I hope you went down the water slide... more than once. Having fun shouldn't be left behind... solely to the province of our youth.

What a pretty grandaughter you have! Caleb took a good look at her, and decided that she is cute, but the age difference may be too great. She looks like you!

Well, now - about the water slide. It is one huge, rough, swirling ride. Last year I was afraid of it because of the pain in my hip that needed "replacing," so I guess I had a little residual fear that it might hurt when it slings you around, as it did last year, but no, I actually had fun this year, thanks to medical science and a skilled surgeon!

Your granddaughter is adorable. So cute. And what a nice looking grandson, MA. Well here we are again - the big 4.

I left for New Orleans this morning to go to the dentist. Spent an hour or so on the twin spans between Slidell and NO because of a wreck, turned around in NO East and came home. John knows about twin span aggravations.

Ouida,

Because part of the west bound bridge was washed out during Katrina, they have to perform maintainence on the temporary structure. This generally happens on Mon- Wed. 10 til 2. The bridge is reduced to one lane.

So for someone travelling to New Orleans during that time, the secret is to take the Highway 11 Bridge. Take the last exit before the Twin Span and go over to Highway 11 ... saves 45 minutes when they are working.

Did you see the pictures of the water spout over the Lake on Sunday. Go to www.wwltv.com and look for the slide show about the water spout. Look under news headlines. It is awesome. We were driving across the Lake and saw it live.

John, thanks for the info on the bridge. Nice to know when traveling to N.O. And the waterspouts are beautiful. I know that was quite a rare experience for you to actually see them in action. I've never seen one. Maybe make a post about the waterspouts. Our comments have drifted.
