In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

A Tribute and Celebration

We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.

Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.

ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS OLD BOOK FROM MERIDIAN?

I found this at a Meridian yard sale years ago. Inside the front cover reads, "Presented to Anthony Walker, Meridian, MS, Jan. 18th, 1882 by his mother Mrs. H. E. Walker.
The title is "Poplar Grove."

Hey, homey ! (the other comment had 2 typos)

Let's see, you're a Renaissance woman with a fondness for old books, old dolls and classical architecture, sculptures and paintings. You speak several languages. You sculpt, you paint and you're a damn good photographer.

Don't know about good cooking yet, but anyone with a fondness for "poke sallit" must be good at that, too. Maybe I should talk to Harry about that.

You are a wife, a grandma and are probably kind to young animals, too. We know you like birds... scarlet tanagers and noisy peacocks.

So, my old Witherspoon classmate, my question is: Do you know if wrasslin's fake? Oh, and what about NASCAR? Is it all about just drivin' fast and turnin' left?

Sorry I can't answer such deep philosophical questions, but I have heard it's best for the ordinary driver to always turn right. You save gas and live longer.

I am not a gourmet cook, but can whip up peas and corn bread in a flash - and my ice box lemon pie is not too bad, actually rivals Weidemann's black bottom pie, my family thinks.

I am intrigued by this book and I would like to try to track it down. Do you have the author?
