Kathryn McGill Gough

September 6, 1939  -  May 28, 2018

Mrs. Gough, 78, of Meridian, passed away on Monday at her residence after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Kathryn was born in Tuscaloosa, AL. She was a longtime resident of Meridian and a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and attended Meridian Community College. She was a very active and faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was employed as the church secretary for 34 years until her retirement in 2008. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Sodality. She had several hobbies through out her younger years such as piano, roller skating, tennis, bowling,bridge, and boating that she enjoyed.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard Gough; daughters, Suzanne Day (Alan), Diane Buchanan, and Katie Gough; son, Charles Gough (Glenda); grandchildren, Shannon Day Richardson (Justin), Ashley Day, Matthew Buchanan, Marcus Buchanan (Brittany), Chelsea Gough, and Harrison Gough; and great grandchildren, Austin Day, Tyler Buchanan, Jackson Buchanan, and Brexley Buchanan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Charles McGill; a baby sister, Johnnie Louise; and a grandson, Alex Day.

Pallbearers will be Harrison Gough, Matthew Buchanan, Marcus Buchanan, Tyler Buchanan, John Harwell, and Tom Zettler.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Patrick School or the American Cancer Society.

Samuel G. Grimes, Jr., deceased, husband of Lynn Johnson Grimes

Samuel Glyde Grimes, Jr., 1941-2018

Samuel G. Grimes, age 77 passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018. Sam was a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service and from the Gulfport/Biloxi VA after 22 years. Sam was a Vietnam Vet and held a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from University of Southern Mississippi.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lynne Grimes; daughter, Terri Graham (Chuck); grandson, Taylor Morse (fiancé, Brittany Routzahn); sister, Marian LoCicero of New Orleans; sister-in-law, Donna Jill Johnson of Meridian; three step-daughters, Kim Ross (Mike), Pam Parker (Jesse), Kim Ross (Mike)and Shari Miller (Robert); 10 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.

Sam was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His greatest joy was spending time with his best friend and devoted wife, Lynne.

He loved playing golf with his buddies almost daily and was an avid LSU fan. Sam was a gourmet chef with a New Orleans flair and kept an immaculate yard. Deeply patriotic and loyal, he was a friend you would in your "foxhole".

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made to The Humane Society of South Mississippi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Pass Christian, with a visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM until the service. Burial will be at Biloxi National Cemetery Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:00 AM.

Bobby Johnson, Deceased

Our friend Bobby Johnson passed away on April 30^th.  There was a memorial service held on Wednesday, May 2^nd at Williams Southside Chapel-Memorial in Gadsden, Al.  According to Williams Southside, there was no obituary.  I understand that Bobby and Belle Jo were living at a retirement community in Gadsden.  I am copying and pasting below the bio about Bobby from our 2008 reunion booklet.  It was written by Belle Jo.  What a beautiful tribute to Bobby, their marriage and children.

“What a pleasure it is for me to write this bio for Bobby.  Maybe you don’t remember, but we were high school sweethearts since 1956, and in the words of Sarah Palin, “He’s still my guy!”  In the early sixties we moved to South Florida where Bobby became involved in construction, I began a long career in education, and we reared two great kids, Robby and Amy.  We loved our community and were involved for years with the Optimists and our church, Flamingo Road Baptist Church.  Bobby and Robby spent hours fishing in the Everglades, shrimping off the causeways, and were outrageous fans at Dolphin and Hurricanes games, but occasionally took me to Broadway plays, his favorite being “Showboat”.  We were active fans of Disneyworld, Daytona Speedway, and the Keys.  In Florida Robby’s three children kept us busily involved until Robby began his association with Lowe’s and ended up in Gadsden, AL as a store manager.  Amy, meantime, attended Mississippi State, met a Jackson boy, and after graduation married Maison Heidelberg.  This led us to move to Jackson after retirement and loving being near her three children.  Maybe we’ll get restless after awhile, but right now we’re enjoying the slower pace.  We just returned from a three week trip out West where we went to see everything we always wanted to see.  Life is good.  Your classmate has been a wonderful husband and father.  He’s kept me laughing for over fifty years!  See you soon… Belle Jo”

Glen McQuage - Track Team

Harrell Glenmore "Glen" McQuage, Jr., deceased

Harrell Glenmore “Glen” McQuage, Jr., 78, of Paducah, KY, passed away peacefully early on Thur., Apr. 12, 2018, after living with congestive heart failure for 14 years. He was surrounded by his family.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Harrell “Mac” McQuage and Mamie Lucile McBryde McQuage of Meridian, Miss. He is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Adams McQuage; two daughters, Angela McQuage (James Barry) and Elizabeth McQuage; six in-law siblings, Emma and Hal Hicks, Denise and David Knupp, and Alyson and Jess Adams; four nieces, Kagney Adams, Lindsey Adams, Brandi Carl, and Melanie Knupp; five nephews, C.W. Adams, Connor Adams, Andrew Adams, Quaid Adams, Paul Hicks; and many great- nieces and -nephews.

In his youth, Glen was a dedicated athlete, playing basketball and excelling in track/long distance running. After high school, Glen joined the Air National Guard where he was “one hell of a typist.” He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and his master’s degree in social work from Tulane University.

Glen spent his career helping others as a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist, specializing in helping individuals struggling with substance abuse. He was passionate about his work and the individuals he helped, as he had struggled with alcoholism himself. He found sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous.

Throughout his life, Glen maintained a passion for music, as he was well known for blaring Bob Dylan and Rush. He was dedicated to his faith and sharing God’s love as a student of “A Course in Miracles.” After retirement, his focuses in life were his wife, his daughters, and continuing his spiritual growth. Glen will be remembered for his unconditional love, his great sense of humor, and his eccentric fashion choices.

Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church, 200 N. 7 St., Paducah, KY, at 10:00AM on Sat., Apr. 21. A memorial service celebrating Glen’s life and the impact it had will immediately follow at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in Glen’s honor. William David Owen, deceased

 

W. Dave Owen, D.D.S.

 William David Owen passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Saturday, January 27, 2018.

He was born on October 8, 1940 to Minnie Gertrude (Polly) Daniel Owen and William Earl Owen in Jackson, MS. He attended Meridian schools where he graduated in 1958. One of his fondest memories was of the Meridian Triangle Restaurant Chic Steaks he was given for making honor roll. He graduated from Mississippi State University and Loyola School of Dentistry followed by residency in Prosthodontics at the VA Hospital in New Orleans and Memphis, TN. He served in the Marine Corp on active duty, then in the Army and Naval Reserves. He taught Prosthodontics at LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans, LA before returning to Jackson, MS to set up his dental practice. Practicing dentistry was far more than a career for Dave. It was a true joy, an avenue for helping people. He was a member of the Mississippi Dental Association and the American Academy of Prosthodontics. He was a member of the Rankin County Rotary Club and was a past District Governor for District 6820. He was a charter member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of trustees, as well as other church duties. A sports enthusiast, he was an avid golfer, and had enjoyed playing on the church softball team. Reading was a life-long pleasure, especially science fiction and westerns.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delois Armstrong Owen and their son, Gary Owen; sister, Linda Jean Owen Parker (Don), brothers, Rich Owen (Joyce), Randy Owen (Linda Sue), stepmother, Dot McKay Owen, stepbrothers, Roger McKay (Jean) and Joe McKay (Linda Kay).

Friends are invited to visitation with the family after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church (Reservoir), 400 Grants Ferry Rd., where the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Warren Coile, officiating. Interment will follow in Natchez Trace Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stewpot Ministries, 1100 West Capitol Street, Jackson, MS. 39203 or to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 400 Grants Ferry Rd., Brandon, MS 39047 or to the charity of your choice.
