On Their Wedding Day in 2016

Theo Tootle, Deceased, Husband of Coty Huggins Tootle

Theo Tootle, 81, of Jasper, GA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 6, 2017.

Theo was the 2nd son to Harold and Lillie Tootle, born August 30, 1935 in Evans County, Georgia.  He was one of eight children raised in Tattnall County.  Theo’s siblings included his four living brothers, Jimmy, Carroll, Ray, and Marcus.  Theo also had 3 sisters who preceded him in death, Janice, Betty, and Sue.

Theo graduated from Reidsville High School in 1953.  He attended Georgia State University and achieved both under and post-graduate degrees in Business Administration.

Theo married Coty Huggins on June 9, 1962, and they just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.  They were blessed with four children, Leigh Anne, Craig, Tom, and Julie.  A loving family was raised, centered on faith, family, and fun.  Theo loved playing sports, including tennis with Coty and all his children as they grew up.  Golf was also a passion, as well as fishing with anyone, especially grandchildren.

Theo had a 40-year career with the AT&T family, starting with Western Electric and ending with BellSouth as Director of Procurement.

In retirement Theo continued his love of golf and fishing while enjoying being an active grandparent.  Affectionately known as Poppa, Theo watched his grandkids Jay, Mark, Grant, Anna, Alex, Grace, and Carley grow into young adults.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 12th at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Jasper, GA at 1:00 p.m.  with a reception following.  There will also be a service at the Reidsville United Methodist Church in Reidsville, GA on Saturday, August 19th at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Theo’s parents and siblings who preceded him in death, the family asks any donations to be made to the American Diabetes Association. (https://donations.diabetes.org)

Obituary of Wanzie L. Strickland (Bill), Husband of Maxine Strickland

Wanzie L. Strickland, known to all as Bill Strickland passed peacefully Sunday July, 23, 2017 at the age of 80. Bill was a Veteran of the United States Army and a true Patriot.

Bill Strickland was born October 2,1936 in Neshoba County Mississippi. He loved basketball as a young man and played on several teams which included High School, Military, and on the practice team for the Boston Celtics.  Additionally, he had a passion and love for coaching Little League Baseball teams.  Bill and his wife Maxine founded Sunbelt Fasteners in Houston, Texas in 1980. He spent his later years on his ranch in LaGrange, Texas raising longhorn and antelope.

He is survived by his wife Maxine Strickland of 53 years and seven months, his beloved sister Ann Tolbert, (husband Keith) - Marietta, Georgia, seven loving children; Marc and wife Debbie - Stockon, California, Debbie and husband Lester - Altair, Texas,  Scarlet and husband Julius- LaGrange, Texas, Stephanie and husband Butch - Milbury, Massachusetts, Dennis - LaGrange, Texas, Peter and wife Linda – Franklin, Tennessee, Shane and wife Karen – Round Rock, Texas and Daughter in-law Rita – Granger, Texas. Fourteen Grandchildren, Eleven Great Grandchildren and many, many friends especially Raul Zaragoza.

Bill was a loving gentleman that loved his family, BBQ, sports, animals, his beloved dog "Willie", and being outdoors hunting and fishing.

Celebration of life will be held for friends and family August 5th 10AM-Noon at The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center 250 W. Fairgrounds Road La Grange, Texas.

At the family's request a private ceremony will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contribution can be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Book Being Published on Oliver Buntin

MESSAGE FROM JIM FARMER ABOUT BOOK COMING OUT ON OLIVER BUNTIN.

The book will be chock full with all sorts of stories, pictures, newspaper articles, awards, etc. Look at subject for Title - SIMPLY THE GREATEST. Some of you have seen my homemade book and a lot of you are familiar with people I talked to when I developed these stories.

The book is on the "launch pad" in countdown now, and I truly believe it will be in our hands later this year. My Uncle Bill Farmer in Choctaw, OK, has put up some money to start, but the publisher, also in Choctaw and great friend of my uncle, says we need about another $1000. I have a few sources including some Farmer relatives who may be willing to help with the cost. It would be great to have some Farmers because of our kinship to the Buntin family. Joyce Bragg Giles, Deceased

Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Giles will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Justin Knight officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 - 3 p.m. and interment will be in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Giles, 77, passed away on June, 29, 2017 at Meridian Community Living. She love to paint, write poetry, work puzzles, talking with friends and family, and fishing. In her earlier years she enjoyed bowling and held the MS Womens State Record for several years.
She is survived by her husband, Otis Weir; Daughter, Belinda Miner (Mike); Son, Bryan Giles (Rebecca); Grandchildren, Whitney Hutsenpiller, Bryan "Jay" Giles Jr., and Kade Giles; and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, David Webster Giles; Mother, Myrtle Bragg; and a sister, Janis Bragg Cheatham.

Peggy Joyce Smith King, deceased

A graveside service for Mrs. Peggy Joyce King will be held Friday, March 10, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Sephus Garrett officiating. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
  
Mrs. King, 76, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday [March 7, 2017] at her residence. Mrs. King loved to dance and listen to country music. She also enjoyed tending to her flower gardens. She will be most remembered for the love she had for her family.
 
Survivors include her son, Jim King and wife, Tracy; daughter, Jeri Walker and husband, Randy; grandchildren, Brandi Stevens and husband, Devy, Dillon Walker and wife, Jennifer, Drake Walker, Kasey King and Katie King; great-grandchildren, Randi Lyn Stevens and Dani Blair Stevens; sisters, Juanita Price, Joan Toler and Tommie Jean Kilgore; sister-in-law, Frances Blackmon and husband, Harold; and brother-in-law, Kenneth King and wife, Carolyn.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Effie Smith; husband, Jimmie King; brothers, Truman and William "Sonny" Smith; and sisters, Odessa Lindsey and Helen Blair.

Sandra Hodge Jones, deceased

Graveside services for Sandra Hodge Jones will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 

Ms. Jones, age 76, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, MS from complications of diabetes. 

Sandra was employed as a medical records technician by Rush Hospital for many years. She was a graduate of Meridian High School and a graduate of Meridian Community College. Sandra attended Arrowood Baptist Church and State Boulevard Baptist Church. Sandra was a very gracious lady. She was a wonderful decorator and she loved to cook for her family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, John "Bo" Hodge and Janice Hodge and her son, William "Alan" Jones. 

She is survived by her son, Jonathan Jones of Bentonville, Arkansas and her grandsons, Chance Jones and Trace Jones. 

She is survived by a brother, Max Hodge, and his family of Toomsuba, MS; a sister, Judy Hodge Eccles and her husband, David Eccles, and their family of Gulf Breeze, FL. and Dallas, TX.; a sister, Pamela Hodge Stevens and her husband, Roy Stevens, and their family of Quitman, MS. The families include numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Sandra.

Obituary for James Tillman, Husband of Rita Monette Tillman

Graveside services for James Tillman will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Tillman, age 77, of Meridian passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016 at his son’s home in Madison, Mississippi.

James graduated from Mississippi State University and married Rita Monette on December 18, 1959. He practiced accounting and was a well-respected CPA in Meridian for over 55 years. He was a loyal Mississippi State Bulldog and proud father and grandfather.

He is survived by his sons, James “Jim” Tillman Jr. (Emily) and Steve Tillman (Dana); grandsons, James “Tripp” Tillman III, Jacob Tillman, Isaac Tillman and Elijah Tillman; brother, Joe Tillman; uncle, Ray Little; and numerous other cousins and family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Monette Tillman and parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Tillman.

Pallbearers will be Selby Salter, Will Hudson, Richard Clayton, Frank Brewer, Wayne Anders, Billy Anders, Johnny Herrington, Irvin Martin, Ronnie Massey, Charles Hurst, Clay Tillman and Eric Tillman.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 1957 State Baseball Championship Team.

We are the issue of Justine and Isham Mann, pictured here on a happier day. From left, Anthony Victor, Tarpley Blair and Timothy Isham. Last night Tim and I lost our brother to interstitial lung disease. He came to visit for Thanksgiving, developed shortness of breath, was hospitalized and remained in ICU until he died. In addition to his siblings he is survived by three nieces, a nephew, and six great nieces and nephews and his girlfriend of ten years, Joy Sawyer. Life events alter one's perspective. Basically, all I need is the air that I breathe. And, to love.

Philip W. "Billy" Horn

May 05, 1940 - September 14, 2016

A Memorial Service for Philip W. “Billy” Horn will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Holy Savior Menard High School Activities building beginning at 2 pm and lasting until 6pm.

On Wednesday September 14, 2016, Billy, age 76, passed away while surrounded by family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bessie Horn and sister Charlene Lawley.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 33 years, Priscilla Joubert Horn; his children , Doyle Horn (Crystal) of Alexandria; Dr. Greg Horn (Karen) of Ocean Springs, MS; Jennifer Hill (Gary) of Prairieville, LA; Angie Goudeau (Kenny) of Colfax; Vicky Sandoval (Tony) of Pineville and Tony Soileau of Tioga, La; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Billy was born May 5, 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Meridian High School in Meridian, MS where he received All-American Honors as a Running Back. Graduating in 1958, Billy played as a freshman running back on scholarship at Mississippi State. In 1959 Billy transferred his scholarship to play football at Louisiana College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 1962 with a minor in social studies.

Billy became Assistant Coach at Arcadia High School in 1962, moved to Welch High School, then to Menard High School in 1964 also as assistant coach. His classroom expertise was in American History.

In 1968 Billy became the Head Football Coach at Menard and continued until 1977. He enjoyed great success during that period with several District Championships.

He then coached at Bolton, Grant and finished his primary coaching career at Tioga High School where he coached from 1982 until 1996 when he then retired from coaching. Coach Horn continued in the classroom with experience at Dry Prong Junior High, Pineville High School, and finally retired from teaching in 2013 at Alexandria Senior High.

Billy loved the “game” and his legacy will forever live on in the many lives that he has touched. His true love was his family; he will forever be our Coach.

Friends and family will be welcome to share in his memories on October 1, 2016.
