In Celebration of MHS Class of 1958

A Tribute and Celebration

We were the class of 1958, members of the Greatest Generation as well as children of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1940, we are also called members of the Traditional Generation.

Our childhood, post World War II, "was the best of times . . . it was the age of wisdom . . . it was the epoch of belief . . .it was the season of Light . . . it was the spring of hope . . . we had everything before us . . .we were all going direct to Heaven . . . ." (A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.) At least, that's the way I felt about it. We were truly blessed.

Another Day in the Garden of Eatin' with Maxine Strickland

Maxine Strickland's Profile Photo, Image may contain: 2 people, including Maxine Strickland

Another day in the Garden of Eatin' For the last 20 years, while Bill was alive, we never locked our doors if we were going to town. This little town is safe and quiet. However, after he died, the children though it was best if I locked my doors, even if I left for a short time. I had several keys hidden outside, actually hanging on a nail by the matching door. That was smart!! So, for safety reasons, I gathered up my keys and brought them inside. No, this is not the end of the story! I put a house key on my car key so I would always be able to get back inside my house! I gathered up my purse, mail to go to the post office, and a grocery list. I exited my back door and locked the door behind me, and walked toward my locked car. Then I realized I didn't have my Car Keys, or a House Key! How was I going to get back in? I hoped I had overlooked a hidden key outside somewhere, but NO, none to be found. My only choice was to enter through the Doggie Door! I laid down on my Left side, and put my arms through the doggie door. Now, Since I have had a mastectomy, I was slim enough to squeeze through to my waist. I propped up on my left elbow and reached up and unlocked the door. Whew, I thought this was easy enough and smart of me, but do you realize how hard it was to wiggle myself OUT? I also have a Black Lab and she is very protective, and she thought I was gone! She heard a commotion at the back door, and came with a full attack mode. When she saw half of me coming through HER DOOR, she didn't know what to do. So as I lay there trying to explain what was going on, she just ROLLED her eyes at me, Don't Ask! Now I have only one hidden key outside. At least this story didn't involve a SNAKE!
