On Wednesday September 14, 2016, Billy, age 76, passed away while surrounded by family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bessie Horn and sister Charlene Lawley.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 33 years, Priscilla Joubert Horn; his children , Doyle Horn (Crystal) of Alexandria; Dr. Greg Horn (Karen) of Ocean Springs, MS; Jennifer Hill (Gary) of Prairieville, LA; Angie Goudeau (Kenny) of Colfax; Vicky Sandoval (Tony) of Pineville and Tony Soileau of Tioga, La; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Billy was born May 5, 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Meridian High School in Meridian, MS where he received All-American Honors as a Running Back. Graduating in 1958, Billy played as a freshman running back on scholarship at Mississippi State. In 1959 Billy transferred his scholarship to play football at Louisiana College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 1962 with a minor in social studies.
Billy became Assistant Coach at Arcadia High School in 1962, moved to Welch High School, then to Menard High School in 1964 also as assistant coach. His classroom expertise was in American History.
In 1968 Billy became the Head Football Coach at Menard and continued until 1977. He enjoyed great success during that period with several District Championships.
He then coached at Bolton, Grant and finished his primary coaching career at Tioga High School where he coached from 1982 until 1996 when he then retired from coaching. Coach Horn continued in the classroom with experience at Dry Prong Junior High, Pineville High School, and finally retired from teaching in 2013 at Alexandria Senior High.
Billy loved the “game” and his legacy will forever live on in the many lives that he has touched. His true love was his family; he will forever be our Coach.
Friends and family will be welcome to share in his memories on October 1, 2016.
